NOTES ON EARLY LEXUS AND TOYOTA
THAT CANNOT BE DONE BY CONNECTING UP TO THE OBD.
IF A VEHICLE IS LISTED AS "RE-FLASH" that means it cant be done thru the OBD PORT!
There are several Toyota/Lexus vehicles that are listed as “Re-flash Only” in our instruction manual & online application guide.
Please note that the term “re-flash” is not the same as “reset Immobilizer”.
Vehicles listed as Re-Flash require the cars computer be removed from the car and either replaced with a brand new one or "Re-Flashed" with the proper knowledge and equipment. There are also several companies that perform REFLASHING thru mail order such as National Auto Lock of California 650-875-0125 or LLS Sales of New Jersey (609) 894-0300
PLEASE DONT CALL TECH SUPPORT TO ASK WHAT RE-FLASHING IS OR HOW TO DO IT.
It's not something we support!

TIPS ON TOYOTA & LEXUS
KEY & PROX PROGRAMMING
IMPORTANT: ALWAYS ENSURE AT LEAST 12 VOLTS DURING KEY OR PROX PROGRAMMING!
ALL KEYS LOST SITUATIONS:
USING THE "QUICK RESET"
ON TYPE 2 & TYPE 4 SYSTEMS
There is a feature called quick reset on the menu for type 2 & 4 vehicles .
If chosen it will put the vehicle in auto-learn mode in seconds as opposed to waiting the traditional 16 to 30 minutes.
Once the light is solid there is no need to reset the ECU, the software will automatically do both the immo reset and ecu reset that is required on Type 4 vehicles. Ecu reset was as an additional step when doing the standard reset.
Helpful tips:
When using the Quick Reset feature the car does not always transmit back the right message to your tester and you may get a failure to communicate error after selecting this option.
The security light may continue to flash and all indicators may lead you to believe that the reset was unsuccessful.
This may not necessarily be the case.
Before making another attempt at resetting the immobilizer, try disconnecting your tester and removing the key from the ignition.
If the security light remains solidly illuminated, the immobilizer is in learn mode and you may begin the key programming procedure.
If the security light is in any other state than solidly illuminated, the reset procedure was unsuccessful.
Once the immobilizer has been reset the first 2 keys will register as master keys and the third will register as a valet.
The auto learn cycle will close after 3 keys but the only if the third key is a valet blank.
The cycle can be closed early by inserting one of the keys in the ignition and rapidly turning the key from off to on 6 times, ending in the off position.
For example one can close the auto learn cycle on 1 or 2 keys by using the following procedure:
Once the security light is solid, indicating the vehicle is in auto learn mode, take a master key blank and slide it into the key way for 5 seconds, not turning it to on.
Remove the master blank and insert the second master key blank for 5 seconds, again not turning to on.
Now remove the 2nd master key from the ignition and re-insert it in the ignition. Rapidly turn the key from off to on 6 times ending in the off position.
Note-on some of the older model vehicles you will need to close the cycle using what's called “a pedal dance”, which is stepping on the brake pedal rapidly 6 times as opposed to using the key.
A very safe way to program these vehicles that reduces risk and maximizes profit is to keep 2 master key blanks & 1 valet key blank available.
ANOTHER VERY GOOD TIP IS:
Cut only a metal key first for the reset.
This way you won't waste an expensive transponder key in the event something is wrong with the vehicle and the reset doesn't take.
Execute the reset procedure using the metal key in the ignition.
Remove it after the light is solid.
Now insert the 2 uncut master key blanks into the ignition for 5 seconds each.
Lastly insert the uncut valet key blank for 5 seconds.
The light should go out on the last key closing the auto learn cycle.
You should now be in possession of 2 programmed master key blanks & 1 programmed valet to offer the customer.
Proceed to cut only the keys that the customers wishes to purchase.
Any of the keys they don't want you can put back into stock for the next reset job.
Just adding keys, customer has a working key:
A working master key must be used if adding a key to a Toyota/Lexus vehicle.
To verify if you have a working master key slide the key in question into the ignition (do not turn to on) if the security light illuminates for a second or two than it is a valet.
If the security light goes out immediately or does not illuminate at all than it's a master and the add key function can be used to program an additional key.
If you want to make sure all other Masters are erased:
The Erase key function will erase all keys & leave 1 working master key.
Maximum amount of keys on most Toyota/Lexus vehicles is 7 masters & 3 valets or 5 masters & 3 valets depending on the model of vehicle.
Sometimes the Maximum # of Keys has been reached:
If your adding keys to a vehicle and all the conditions are correct and your machine is telling you porcedure complete but the key does not work the key memory may be full.
Use the ERASE KEYS function.
Then use ADD KEYS to program in more.
Can I use a used chip from another car Or a used Prox from another car?
Chips in Toyota/Lexus keys and Toyota Prox keys are re-usable from one vehicle to another as long as they are the correct chip or Prox for the vehicle being programmed.
The only exception to this is in regards to some of the Prox equipped vehicles. It does not happen often but we have seen
some that require the use of a new Prox and won't accept a used Prox during the programming procedure.
This applies to both a Immobilizer Reset or the Add Prox procedure.
Most of the time a used prox will only take if you do a Immobilzer Reset.
Try changing the Prox battery if you have problems programming a Prox to the car.
If this does not solve any issue with programming try another prox or as last resort a Brand New Prox.
RAV4 PROX 2008-2009
We have recently seen some TOYOTA RAV4 that are PROX OPTION equipped. These program under PROX TYPE 1.
These are somewhat uncommon so have managed to stay out of our Apps guide, we will include them in a future update!
RAV4 PROX 2010+
These are covered by ADS-174 and can be either G key or Prox equipped.
HOW TO TELL IF A CAR IS G KEY EQUIPPED IF YOU HAVE NO KEY?
Easy! Just communicate with the cars immobilizer using your PRO. If Type5 Comms then use G key.
Toyota dealers often source the wrong key on these vehicles when ordering them at the parts counter, do not waste an expensive key assuming the dealer has provided a G key so the car has the G key system. If it's a 2010 model it could be on the old 4D system!
2011 SEINNA VAN
Again these are covered by ADS-174. They can be either keyed on the G key or Prox.
We've also seen a few base model Seinna Van's that are Non-Transponder. The ignition looks different and the door handles are charcoal finish rather than painted to match the vehicle color.
G Key system, Adding a Valet key.
When using Type5 "Program Key" function to add a VALET KEY (Grey head) once the sequence finishes and you get the "PROCEDURE COMPLETE" message on the screen You MUST hit ENTER before turning the key or trying to start the car or the key will NOT Program in.
Please note this only applies to VALET KEYS and not when adding a MASTER KEY.
